Happy Birthday, Sundance!

This past Wednesday, May 6, marked nine years since a great little Shetland Sheepdog named Sundance came into my life. On a sunny Saturday afternoon I was on my way home from running errands when I heard a radio commercial about animal adoptions at PetSmart. I hadn't even thought about getting a dog, but decided to stop by.

Sundance was in a small temporary fenced area with about four or five other dogs, right in the middle of the store. He was trembling with anxiety, but came right over and gave me a big brown-eyed gaze. I knelt down to take a closer look.

"Are you going to adopt Sundance?" asked one of the volunteers. "His brother Butch just got adopted." No wonder he was shaking -- in the middle of a crowded pet store, strangers all around, wondering what happened to Butch. After a quick trip to the ATM, Sundance came home with me. It's the best $50 I've ever spent.
